I did spend ten years at Melbourne University. The last two years of my University time were as a postdoc at the University of Southampton in the UK.

Come to think of it, I spent six more years at Nijmegen University in the Netherlands, working - nominally part time - as an electronic engineer in the science faculty workshop. Female sports were never very popular in the US, to begin with. Like maybe 1 in 100 Americans could name even two WNBA teams.

Interestingly two cities have WNBA teams and no NBA team, Seattle and ah...Connecticut/Hartford/Uncasville, Connecticut (the team is owned by the Indian tribe that owns the nearby Mohegan Sun casino)

The welfare of women isn't much affected by competition from the occasional transexual athlete.

Sport is essentially a device to get people to exercise. Creeps who think that winning is a whole more important than taking part, and want to freeze out the occasional transexual athlete, have a really perverse view of what's going on.

Phil, John Doe and John Larkin do seem to have fixed ideas about what is important to the welfare of women. They are all men. Women rather resent that sort of paternalist intervention - or at least ones I hang out with.
