The ratio would more likely be between 1 and 2.

Many cars would be recharged at home. You would only need a small number at charging stations to cater for long-distance travel.

For the battery handling issue there are already systems being promoted in Japan for automatic transfer of the battery between the car and charging racks. (Of course getting the manufacturers to agree on a standard will be difficult)

I'm not denying that there are many problems and inconveniences and it is not economically justifiable at the moment but it is not an absurd solution.

Typically the weakest cell fails and then the anti-self destruct mechanism stops the whole thing from being recharged. Officially no user serviceable parts in the multicell units. And the anti self-immolation circuit isn't entirely foolproof there have been a few go up.

The energy density in a fully charged battery is fairly nasty. Even a humble AA when shorted can source well in excess of 10A until it explodes.

And I expect they replace them about every 3-4 years. It is very difficult to make a deep discharge high power battery that is robust in regular use and with a sensible power to weight ratio.
