Anyone tried deep fried locusts?

Ironically, the other month I changed from using Google Groups back to a usenet program and server, and I'm getting a ton more spam than ever. Google Groups hardly has any in comparison.
Dave.
What? Does googlegroups police its own internal system, but let crap out onto Usenet?
Must be. I block googlegroups completely except for a handful of white listings. I see maybe one spam every few weeks.

I am not seeing most of these Gmail posts. And I have no filters. Verizon and motzarella must be blocking gmail users. Or the posts are just not propagating.
As for the spam postings there present on either server.
go figure.
Cheers
I think the ISPs must filter quite a bit. In fact mine seems to filter you Jim(!) I see maybe 1/3rd of your first posts when you start new threads.

I don't know, but the Google Groups interface sorts the messages in response order which IMO is very handy. So the real threads get responses and so stay at the top of the list, while the spam gets no responses and quickly vanishes off the list so you hardly ever see them anyway. so when you log in to read, all the good stuff is at the top, and the spam has all but dropped out of sight. I don't know how many usenet readers offer that ability, but I'm using Outlook Express at the moment and it doesn't do that, so the spam stays put mixed in with all the other real threads. Very visually distracting compared to the GG interface.
Dave.
That's interesting! Who is your ISP? I'll pay them a visit ;-)

That's how all newsreaders I've used work. I prefer the GG interface in this respect, although both have their pros and cons.
Dave.
That's not filtering then, that's simply an unreliable ISP news server - very common, and very annoying. One of the original reasons I switched to Google Groups many years ago.
Dave.
Verizon.
Could be. I use Google sometimes too, when traveling. It's not too bad.
James
Why? When traveling I use the same ISP as here, with a regular newsreader. I would not use Google out of principle because of their behavior WRT spam. Or rather, lack of behavior.

Because when I'm using someone else's computer and ISP for access, what choice is there?
Cheers, James Arthur
APN (Agent) amongst many other news servers are available irrespective of ISP.

Guys like these?
They used to have a news2web feature but I don't know if they still do. Should be others though. Usenet is considered the domain of bearded old professors reminiscing about the glorious old days, by many.
Same for Thunderbird. But James got a point, you typically won't be allowed to install that on somebody else's PC or mess with the account settings of their email program.

Server, yes, but unless I misunderstand you need a newsreader installed, right? Which I can't politely do on someone else's computer.
So, I'm content to fall back to Google. Handy when I'm, for instance, in some South American internet cafe, or a truck stop in New Mexico, etc.
Cheers, James Arthur
You don't carry your own laptop?

Nope.
I've sent an inquiry to Agent Support. Agent uses an INI file, so it may be functional as a carry-along on a memory stick or zip-drive, without needing conventional installation.
