Capacitor ESR Meters?

And spacially challenged: ever try looking for the Draw Circle function?

Most of the young engineers and scientists coming out of university these days are Matlab-literate (numerate?), and Photoshop interfaces beautifully with Matlab. Not only does it have incredible capabilities, but they are relatively easy to use.

200 years ago you'd have been burned as a witch for having such software.

Less than $700 from Amazon. Cheap for a business, but a bit pricey for individuals. The whole Master Collection CS4 is only $2,300. That's cheaper than most EDA packages or mechanical CAD packages (more of a mass market) for an amazing array of functionality.

Enough tools to even work with the old Postcript files that I used to write by hand 15 or 20 years ago (thanks in part to your writings, BTW) and allow WYSIWYG and/or precise numerical editing. And it understands Pantone spot colors so we can communicate with suppliers anywhere in the world.

Indesign (included) is the best page layout program I've ever used.

Adobe ($3bn in sales) is one of the engines of the new economy.

The real question is whether it is overkill for your needs. GIMP is far lower priced ($0) and has similar capabilities.

Not sure which version you are talking about, it works fine for me. Version 2.2.17 and later. Then again i am not real demanding.

Why use a flash at all? Its not like this thing is moving, so a picture in ambient light might look a lot better. The "magic eye" will probably look better. I'll have to shoot a photo of my bridge and see how it comes out.

The pros use a flood directed into an umbrella-shaped reflector made of something like cotton sheeting to give a "soft" diffuse source of light. ...Jim Thompson

I have an old Sony Cybershot DSC-S70 and a (relatively) new Sony DSC-T300. Both allow no flash, auto-flash and "red-eye", your choice.

The old one is better ;-) ...Jim Thompson

"Shutter" speed and camera movement/blur are the main reasons.

they may "allow" not using the flash, but the image sensor may not have the sensitivity to pick up enough light for a reasonable exposure, and you'd lose detail,or contrast would suffer.

Plus, you would need a tripod or other solid camera support for the longer exposure times.

I have both a tripod and a unipod. I got the latter only recently to cope with 9 year old granddaughter's birthday party and the hundred mile a second motion ;-)

Now all I need is a remote control video camera to handle the karate events ;-) ...Jim Thompson

[snip]

Manual control mode. You pick the shutter speed, f-stop, focus and even ASA. A couple of test shots to tweak the settings and you've got it.

My Canon A-620 has a two second delay so you can press the shutter and the tripod vibrations can die down.

Presuming you want proper portability (pull the kit around on a kart=20 smaller than a shopping basket), and reasonable video quality (stabilized= =20 SD), it should be obtainable for maybe $5K or a bit less. Stabilized HD=20 would be about $500 to $2k more. Maybe a little less for plug in.

Sometime you might want to search (google, youtube) FPV R/C. They have first person view radio control equipment where people operate radio control vehicles, airplanes, and helicopters, (and sometimes blimps indoors) from a camera mounted on the model. They often use video googles and a head tracking device so when they turn their head the camera pans and tilts. I'm not sure if they use accelerometers, gyroscopes or maybe both. I have a video camera, transmitter, and receiver I plan to mount on a model heli or plane hopefully this year. I don't have the pan and tilt mount but that's not recommended for new fpv pilots. They also have GPS interfaces to give you an on screen display of coordinates and some feature autopilot that uses the GPS to fly your aircraft back to the take off point if it looses signal.
