Building More Powerful Amp

Hello friends .Its sahil wants ur help. I am currently using an audio Amp of transistor 2N3055 .It uses two transistors for one channel .Transformer is of 12-0-12 , 5A .I am not satisfied with the amp performance.I want some what powerful amp schematic whose transistors are easily available .I want to drive 12" SUB WOOFER. Hey I hope U are the person Who can HELP me......Reply .........

What is your circuit arrangement? I assume it's a class B with the speaker lead coming off of the collector of one final transistor and the emitter of the other?

Posting your schematic and including a link, or posting it to the schematics binaries group would be helpful.

In what way? I don't know about subwoofers, but 'normal' speakers have an impedance of four to eight ohms. That plus your drive voltage is what limits your power, after you've made sure your power supply is up to the task if you want more power you'll need to increase your supply voltage.

Are you having problems finding the '3055? AFAIK these are still available through Digi-Key (at least in the US). The '3055 is a big, slow transistor, for a subwoofer application you should be able to look at a data sheet and match specs for a replacement.

Have you done some web searches? This sort of thing should be all over.

You may also want to consider some of the class D audio amplifier chips that are out now. TI and National both have interesting designs to which you just add power and output inductors. Class D isn't quite fast enough yet for high frequency audio, but it seems to be right there for subwoofers.

A pair of 2N3055's can output close to 60 watts of audio. You may just need to increase the power supply voltages (assuming the electrolytic caps are rated for it)

shows three versions of the

2N3055 "el cheapo" amplifier - the one that started the DIY stereo amp craze in the 60's. No idea how or why it picked up the moniker "el cheapo."

all the audio amp schematics

- mostly complimentary transistor split supply amps up to 1,500+ watts (well you could power a toaster with it)

Again, you asked this question on September 14th, and got answers there. Until you actually show you've read those answers, you don't deserve any more responses.

Second, you've posted this second message at least twice, here and in sci.electronics.basics. You should have decided where it better fits, and clearly sci.electronics.basics is the place for you. If you couldn't be bothered to look for answers the first time you posted, then it's no wonder you think you need to post in more than one newsgroup, in order to get a response.

Actually, it looks like you've hit more than two newsgroups with your posts this time.

There really is no excuse to hit more than one newsgroup for this type of question. But given that you have, you've failed at that task too, since there is no excuse to post separately to more than one newsgroup. If you really had a very good reason to post to more than one newsgroup, you do it by cross-posting, ie putting the different newsgroups in the newsgroup header, so the same message simply appears in those different newsgroups, but not taking up multiple space for each message.

My advice is that you get a book and read up.
