I heard NASA is getting involved and is going to do failure analysis for Toyota on this!

I presume there are no O-rings involved.

The old syllogism goes like this:

  1. All software has bugs;
  2. Software can always be recoded to be smaller;

Therefore

All software can be reduced to a single incorrect instruction.

You either heard it wrong or you erroneously interpolated what you heard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requested the help--not the Jap corporation.
