MOSFETS connected, for prototyping safety everywhere I used the SQJB80 beautiful duals with decently low Qg:

The gate driving networks required some tweaking with a scope, as there was noticeable ringing. Now all the four transistors switch nicely, the gate signal rise time is 32ns, fall time is slightly shorter. This should be good for low switching losses, now the entire converter uses

21mA@12V when idling.

It's time to design and wind a prototype transformer and see what happens.
