BFS17

Nice part. Sort of a Goldilocks between the 2N3904s and real microwave devi ces. That makes it more of a SMT equivalent of the late lamented 2N5179 (an old fave of mine). The 5-9 GHz f_T devices, e.g. the BFU520, are also reas onably stable, but the really fast SiGe:C ones oscillate if you look at the m crossways, or even if you don't. ;)

I always have a full vial of BFS17 here. As you often say, they are good medicine.

It was suggested on this group some year(s) ago and I got some. Too cheap to pass up especially considering the nice specs.

Oh, not so good. Hopefully it'll heal. I try to keep young by activities such as mountain biking. When riding the road bike there's many folks older than I am but on the mountain bike I am usually the geezer. Almost everyone else seems to be under 40. But ... when they ask me how many miles I rode their jaws drop. "You mean, you rode all the way to Placerville on this trail?".

I'm in pretty decent shape... don't ride a bike, but considering it... most of my exercise is building shelving, etc, continual honey-do ;-)

Aren't you younger than my kids? My oldest turned 56 on Jan 30 and my youngest turned 46 on Mar 5.

Do it, don't put it off. Decent shape would mean being able to climb the stairs to the 10th floor of a high rise at normal walking speed and not get out of breath. I see that a lot: People think they are in fairly good shape, buy a bike, and then we go on a ride. 3-5 miles into it at a (for me) slow speed with an ever so slight incline in there ... "Oh man, I can't keep on riding!"

The aerobic effect of any of that is almost zero, no matter how hard you work at it. You need something that keeps your cardiovascular system at a slightly elevated performance level for a few hours. Like my ride yesterday did. Gnarly turf where maintaing an average speed of 8-9mph is hard work. The trail contains some parts which mountain bikers call "rock gardens". Which meant that the 33.5 miles took about four hours of pure riding time. But it wasn't any boring gym activity (where they'd probably kick you out after 2h anyhow), I got to pet horses and saw a lot of beautiful nature. Then I rewarded myself with a brewsky and brought a growler of beer home from here:

Not too far from 60.

And I'm now 4 pounds away from High School weight... 168# down from a high of 210# !!

Two floors is barely getting started. The ideal situation is where you can keep the cardio system slightly elevated for several hours.

So you are now at 42 lbs? :-)

That's good, shedding pounds is important. Now you have to build up the endurance.

I dropped weight, then started gaining again but the belly did not come back. Turns out it must be all muscle mass. The legs are hard and much thicker. Now I can hammer up many hills in 4th or 5th gear where I used to crawl up in 1st. But not when with other less fit riders because that frustrates them. Except one who now also got to that level.

The downside is that I wear out chains faster than ever before (stretch). Also rear tires which never last more than 500 miles on the mountain bike.

So how does this contribute in a positive way to the BFS17 discussion?

I almost used a BFS17 in the tail light electronics for the mountain bike because their vial was closest 8-)

When it happened to me it was a kidney stone. I didn't get the pain on the small of the back until after I'd started passing blood, which worried the hell out of my GP. A lithotriptor eventually fixed it, after more invasive procedures hadn't. I did feel like I'd been hit by truck for the next day or two - enough ultrasound to bust a kidney stone does create a certain amount of soft tissue damage, even if it heals up rapidly.
