I can't tell you how many times I had to track down harmful interference in the field, only to find some bastardized ham rig at the end of the chase!! While not a HAM myself, and in spite of the fact that I have several friends who I would consider to be "good" hams, I still couldn't give a nickle for the whole bunch of them.
As to spectrum efficiency, I submit the spectrum can find better uses than: "Honey, can you bring home a gallon of milk?"

I would assume that they have RAM mirroring the flash, and it's written back on power-down with a little double layer cap or something to provide power, but I can't find a source that says so. Are they made that way? It would suck if they actually wrote to flash constantly.

The constructs that are arrayed when it is compiling are not that big, and even if they are, they would get sequentially written ACROSS the flash, so it would not over-exercise it in any way. Sheesh.
They are even putting flash cache on hard drives now. See the Seagate hybrids. They have a 32MB fast cache, but they ALSO have a 4GB flash cache. The question is how does that "area" get utilized? Especially when one places multiple volumes on the drive. It is probably a FIFO for the drive controller, so every volume uses it.
