That's your rather restricted view. If you take more money in taxes and spe nd it on making sure that everybody's kids are well-fed and well educated, you end up with a more highly skilled work force, and - surprise, surprise

- everybody makes more money.

That's why 80 million Germans can export as much as 32o million Americans.

The Germans also seem to maintain their roads and bridges better.

Not when it comes to spending on education, where nobody knows who is going to benefit from it until they've actually spent a couple of years getting educated.
