Right. The regular 914 had a VW engine and the 914/6 had the 6-cyl 911 engine. A hefty girlfriend was useful to have in the passenger seat.

No, neither the 356 nor the 911 used VW floor pan (the 'chassis' on a Type 1 Volkswagen.) The 356 used upgraded-very upgraded, toward the end- VW engines and transaxles but a different semi-monocoque structure. The 911 used a completely different everything, except the basic configuration. The first 912 was the VW-derived pushrod four in the 911 chassis.

My error, I don't know what I was thinking. It was NatSemi, however, I still suspect possible suicide by car. But apparently his forced retirement was a case of he'd pissed someone off in mgm't.

Suicide by car isn't as rare as one would think. I had an aunt that did it back in the late 60s: she wrote a note that was found only years later. Often people who do it do not leave a note as the reason they choose that method is so they won't be declared a suicide, saving the family the embarrassment and loss of survivor benefits.

I haven't seen a Dauphine in years but there's a guy a couple of blocks from me who owns two DKWs, a Citroen 2CV and a DAF. I saw him in the DAF this morning. I think its two cylinder engine is derived from a VW four, but I am not sure. It has a rubber belt CVT., though.

I'm trying to "egg" him into buying an Isetta or a Goggomobil.
