I'll agree that editing the Postscript is often more straightforward than using PDF editing tools like Acrobat or Pitstop, or (in some cases, where you only need to add stamps) coding up a one-off iText app.

But using Postscript to process the Postscript is, well, ... it's impressive, but there are much more capable text manipulation languages. Perl and python come to mind.
