About the Dynamic range!!

hi, Last time I asked about how to test the dynamic range of the active RC filter. I follow the instructions to input a step signal of 1V into the filter and see response is 0.62V. Is that the largested signal that the filter can process? BTW, The overshoot of the response of the filter is up to 0.65V.

To answer your question, dynamic range is generally a frequency dependent parameter defining the ratio of maximum/minimum signal amplitudes over which the circuit the circuit basically works. In your case it would simply mean the ratio of (maximum input level that does not produce distortion products exceeding the noise output)to equivalent input noise.

No. The largest input voltage that the filter can process is the input voltage that just barely causes the output to go into saturation. For example, if the op-amp saturates at 10V, then the maximum input would be 10V/6.5V. However, Jim Williams correctlly pointed out that in a state variable type filter, it is possible for one of the integrators to have an output that is sqrt(2) times the input. If you are using this type filter, you must take this into account. If you are using a single op-amp type filter, such as a Rauch or Sallen-Key, then you don;t havbe to worry about this problem.
