nicely packed, free headers, cannot make it for that price. This has the Microchip ENC28J60 plus magnetics plus 3.3V regulator. SPI interface, can just conect it to my existing PIC software :-)

Passed through customs no delay, was marked 'no commercial value'. :-)

No wonder with that pink Hello Kitty shipping box. {:-D

Myself I live very close to Schlaraffenland, 90 minutes travel bring me to Shenzhen. How much did you pay for shipping?

hard to beat that price, would probably be hard to just get the components for that

what I wonder is how the guys in China manage to keep avoiding customs. I can't buy a paperclip in the US with out the post service charging for going through customs and then customs add import tax and sales tax on everything including shipping So the price will have doubled before I get it.

every time I hear someone got something from China it almost always avoid getting caught

They tend to understate the value and/or mark it as 'gift'. It doesn't matter for business stuff for me because I'd claim it back anyway.

It's SOP for those guys.. buy something in Chinatown- could I have a receipt? Okay, but have to charge you tax..

One guy in Israel sells watch movements worldwide and _guarantees_ no import tax. I guess they're small enough that the fraud works most of the time.

and type the [above] object number in the search window for all info, also on shipping: Objectnr 250799268967

I also received 3 FM transmitter modules, it says 2 pieces, but I received 3! Objectnr 230608931311

Also free shipping, I wired one up late last night at home and had my mp3 player on every radio in the house :-) Stereo, SPI controlled PLL, seems to default to about 107.2 MHz without initialising the SPI.. Some deals from ebay are incredible. For this one I will add a PIC and LCD display for the frequency. It is based on the BH1415F chip.

You can also get those transmitters for about 7 dollars complete with LCD: Objectnr 280398077029

In my case at least, I think there is no fraud. The price was stated on the custom form, and it did say 'electronic components', look:

Probably, below some value, customs does not bother. Same at the airport, is it 100 Euro these days? I brought a new camera in from the US here, went to 'something to declare', the price was just below their threshold:-)

components', look:

LOL!

  1. "No Commercial Value" (strike 1)
  2. "Gift" (strike 2)
  3. "Value " (strike 3, yer outa here)

Some of them even have the customs stickers printed up with "Gift" marked on them. They must be the most generous people in the world, all those hundreds of thousands of "gifts" they send.

The official threshold for mail is typically less than $100/EUR 100 in countries that collect sales tax on imports. In practice, they seem to let stuff go if they feel like it.

ny

nents', look:

',

it is different when you carry it your self, here max combined value of goods for private use you can bring home from a trip outside EU is ~420euro

I just looked up the rules for getting stuff through the mail from outside EU here:

under ~10euro incl. shipping, no taxes

10 - 150 euro incl. shipping, sales tax and import fee

the import fee is what the postal service takes to do the paperwork and collect the taxes, it is ~20 euro

writing gift won't help, even if you could convince them it is a gift over ~50euro will still be taxed the same way writing a low value won't help, they might tell you to prove what you paid if they disagree with the value.

Whatever, I just wrote some C code so I can set the frequency via SPI via the PC par-port. You can also select mono-stereo. Now to port that code to PIC, and add the frequency display LCD. Range seems quite good.

# fm_test -h Panteltje fm_test-0.1 Usage: fm_test [-f frequency] [h] [-m] [-p n|h|l|t] [-v]

-f float frequency in MHz, minimum 88.0, maximum 108.0, default 100.1 MHz.

-h help (this help).

-m force mono mode, default stereo.

-p char phase_detector_mode, 'n' = normal, 'h' is force output high, 'l' = force output low, 't' = force output tri_state, default 'n'.

-v int verbose level, 1 prints functions and arguments, 2 prints bits on SPI too.

Example: Set FM frequency to 100.1 MHz: fm_test -f 100.1

# fm_test -f 107.2 It seems sensitive to hum, running in the living room, coil pics it up. Needs shielding I think. Sound quality is OK. Frequency is accurate too. The chip goes up to 120 MHz according to the datasheet, and down to 70. Whats at 120? aircraft? I have added some limits for the FM band 88-108 in the software :-) Disabled for test of course.

If anyone needs the test C code (Linux) ask here.
