Samsung e250 info but question re unlock 'code' and pw in text ? (Optus - arrgh)

hi guys, havent been here much for a while but this question might jog someones response

My 13yr old son bought a samsung e250 from a classmate recently and its locked to optus, we were under the impression it was already used on optus for some time so any unlock fee would be nonexistent or small... But, it turns out the seller only used a previous optus simcard and my son cant use his vodafone sim in it without it requesting an unlock password and (you guessed it) optus, having looked up the (old) number, want $80 to provide that

My son has recently done some exhaustive searching and found this information for the e250 phone which I have posted at the bottom of this article:-

It seems some of this doesnt apply to the e250 in Australia, esp the unlock options, so I am wondering if anyone has any updated info re this phone so my son can use his vodafone card in it before christmass ?

In the info below there is reference to code or pw, would this be the thing that optus would supply or some other item, such as maybe the pin that was on the vodafone sim (if that sim was in the phone when we tried it) but it doesnt work, so I am wondering about the context for that ?

Any replies wouold be greately appreciated, email if you like to snipped-for-privacy@niche.iinet.net.au

Hope the information below is of help to others,

Thanks

Mike Perth, Western Australia

Type *#9998*627837793# Go to the 'my parameters' and there you will find new menu where you can unlock phone.(not tested-for

samsung C100) To unlock a Samsung turn the phone off take the sim card and type the following code *#pw+15853649247w# . Java status code: #*53696# (Samsung X600)

If you want to unlock your phone put a sim from another company then type

*#9998*3323# it will reset your phone. Push exit and then

push 7, it will reset again. Put your other sim in and it will say sim lock, type in 00000000 then it should be unlocked. Type in *0141#

then the green call botton and it's unlocked to all networks. This code may not work on the older phones and some of the newer phones.

If it doesn't work you will have to reset your phone without a sim in it by typing *#2767*2878# or *#9998*3855# (not tested)

cheers!

ps. I dont have a samsung at the moment, so I cant say for sure if this'll work, just proceed with caution when doing them on your phone. (backup everything first).

Unfortunately doesnt work for the Australian release of the e250, seems that the unlock passcode is based on a formula from the IMEI number, there is a suggestion of putting a sim in once its turned on, also unfortunately the battery gets in the way of that - though only just, guess it might be possible to tease it past but I dont think the SIM cards are flexible, the options seem to be to pay the fee to optus or to an unlock place of some $5 or so but they advertise $5 then you go to through the steps and it asks for more, I have doubts it would work though and then faced with the time and hassle of getting a paypal refund, arrrgh - I hate it when companies lock things up and cant just use their merit and offer you a competitive rate, slimey lot these mobile firms.
