Flickering band at bottom of NTSC video tapes

Hi,

I live in Australia so have the PAL system I have a Samsung DVD/VCR combo DVD-V6800(brand new) & an NEC TV RH1777. (Old) When I play an NTSC video tape & a Region 1 DVD I have a flickering band at bottom of picture that appears to be the current TV station picture. I have played the video in my old player (Panasonic) with the same results. I have played the DVD in a LG DVD recorder & it is fine - no band. On both DVD & Video the picture is fine. Just the annoying band at the bottom. Please help. The videos are 2 of my favourites that I could only buy on the Internet in NTSC format. It has been asked are the NEC & Samsung machines compatible. ??? Thank You

How big is the band and what happens when you adjust the tracking?:

You can try adjusting the tracking. I don't think it will do much for you. What I think the real problem is, the field scan rate for region

1 is 60 Hz.

If you were using analog television systems, you would not be able to have vertical lock or visible colour. What you really need is a VCR that can handle 60 Hz field rate. Then if your TV cannot properly handle NTSC, you will need a standards converter.
