How to hook up a 12vdc single coil latching relay

I ordered these single coil latching relays and didn't get a schematic with them and.... I'm lost as to how to hook them up. Any info would be appreciated... whitefoots

Driving the coil with opposite polarities either sets or resets the latch. One hopes that you have the appropriate drive current, voltage, and snubber settings.

Manufacturers frequently make data sheets available through their web pages. Looking up the part number on that Google thing might be effective.

Does the relay have a manufacturer and part number? - if so, look on for the manufacturer's web site, and find the datasheet.

Hi, Whitefoots. If you've got a double-pole, double-throw center-off switch, here's the absolute easiest way (view in fixed font or M$ Notepad):

When the switch is in the center position (off), no voltage is applied to either side of the coil. It doesn't do anything.

When the switch is in the down position, the + side of the voltage source is applied to the top side of the coil, and the - of the voltage source is applied to the bottom side of the coil. That will set the relay.

When the switch is in the up position, the voltage is applied in reverse -- + to the bottom and - to the top. That will reset the relay.

You can do the same thing as the switch with other relays, or with transistors. Note that having both sides of the coil at the same potential is electrically the same as having power disconnected.

Hope this is of help. If you describe a little more about what you're doing and how you plan to drive the relay, possibly you might get a more specific answer.

you need some sort of reversing switch or H-bridge so similar setup that's able to drive the coil in both directions, one way turns the relay on the other turns it off.

Here are two ways you couild do it using ordinary switches ascii-art: use a fixed-pitch font (eg:courier): windows users paste into notepad. google groupies select "view original" under options.

here it's done using a capacitor and an ordinary spdt switch you could use a small battery for a power source, it'd last years.
