looking for a good/cheap source of CCDs and displays....

Basically, I want digital cameras, but without the camera. There's a big range in prices for the parts for some reason, none of the parts are cheap, unless you buy 10,000, and considering that CVS sells the one time use digital cameras for 20 bucks. Actually, I've bought a couple of those just for the parts, but if somebody can save me some time to find a source, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for just the components that would go in the cheapest digital camera on the market, but not for taking pictures. Just the live video. I'm sure there's a surplus place somewere that has them, but I thought I'd post this to save time.

In the mean time, I'll keep looking.

I did the same with an optical mouse - $6.95 from Home Depot. Looked up the specs on the sensor, an 18 by 18 ccd array. You usually cannot buy the sensors anywhere as cheap as buying the consumer device that contains them, but you can often chase down the specs on the part they use.

Another approach is to buy a cheap video camera ($25 from Circuit Specialists). Then at least you have a known interface (NTSC) to recover the data.

Everyone, thanks for the tips. I have already ordered three camera devices from Circuit Speciaists. Stranglely, no one there knew where I could buy the LCD displays. But I was able to find a couple vendors who can provide those. Also, thanks for the tip on the optical mouse. I had plans to use an optical mouse for something, but not as a mouse. So, that saves me from posting another question.

We are a company that deals with SONY range of CCDs. May be we can sell the CCDs used in Sony cameras. Pl.give me the CCD nos. that you need.

The CCD ICX223 costs US$45.00 and I think this is 5 mega pixel with very good sensitivity.
