Replacement DC PSUs

Hi



I need to get hold of a replacement PSU for a TFT screen. The screen requires 12v 2.7A 33w.



Will a 12v 5A supply work (is the 5A a *max* output) or do I need a specific 2.7A one?



I'm also not entirely clear on the difference between regulated and unregulated, despite having looked on Google. How do I know if a particular device needs reg or unreg?



Finally (sorry!) I have another device which doesn't state what it needs, although it runs off 6 x 1.5v cells. Am I correct that a 9v supply will work ( I don't want to fry it!!)

Your TFT should work with 5A power supply. You can't force amperage through a device.. It is just avaible for it to use if it need it. You only need to be concerned with the voltage and the polairty of the barrel connector. You need to make sure that they are both the same.. They are usually positive in the center. Check your monitor and your power supply. They should both have a picture with a half circle and a + and - one pointing to the center of the circle one to the outside.

Power supplies for computer equipment such as monitors, laptops, etc., are almost always regulated. That is, the output voltage stays constant when operated within its current limits. If your TFT needs 2.7A (which is a maximum specification), then the 5A supply will certainly be OK, PROVIDED that it is regulated. Unless you are certain that it is a regulated supply, I recommend that you buy a regulated PSU such as the one at

(be sure to copy the entire URL into your browser) at only $7.95 USD. At that price, I'd recommend that you get a couple of them, and save one for a spare in case of more trouble.
