Panasonic Quintrix TXW28R4DP not starting

Hi,

my Panasonic TXW28R4DP finally gave up the ghost. When first turned on, the screen would fizz rapidly to black and back, and if it stayed totally black long enough would shut off the PSU, unless you kept bashing it to give it some more white before the shutoff circuit timed out. I am guessing the HT was intermittent.(?) After maybe a minutes bashing it would stay on indefinately.

I tried in vain to find a dry joint or bad connection but couldn't and I even ended up soldering all the larger joints on the mainboard but to no avail. I repair audio equipment for a living and am used to dry joints/connections going bad and repairing them, but this was so sensitive to mechanical shock I couldn't home in on it at all.

Now, no amount of bashing will get any white to appear, so the PSU just shuts off after 3 seconds or so.

What should I do now? Is there a commonish component or joint that causes this? I don't like TV's, they scare me a lot, even though I repair lots of valve guitar amps with dangerous voltages inside. Hence I haven't really gone much near the HT section while the set is on, other than poke around with a drumstick to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Gareth.
