Panasonic Dot Matrix Printer

Model KX-P1124. The rubber strip [3/8 X 15 inches] which backs up the paper under the print head has finally deteriorated. Before I experiment with a strip cut from an inner tube [seems a little too soft], is there a better replacement available? Thank you.

An inner tube is far too soft. It should NOT stretch. I've used the rubber gasket material from either a plumbing store or automotive gasket material. Matching the thickness is the problem. Some of the stuff comes on a roll.

As I recall, the Panasonic rubber strip might be reversable. Try cleaning off the back and using the other side.

Sadly, the old strip is probably 15 years old and split into several pieces. I've not seen a thin enough gasket material on a roll but I'll look again. Thanks, Jeff [I enjoy your "wireless" commentaries immensely.].

First: Contact Panasonic tech support and ask them if the can sell you a replacement part! It may not be very expensive if it is still available.

Second: You will have to visit a lot of hardware and automotive parts places to see if you can find something that will work for you.

Thanks. I didn't think anyone read my rants.

How thin or thick? I don't have any Panasonic printers left. (What I do have is a mess of Okidata dot matrix printers I keep alive for the local retail establishments). The KX-P1124 is sufficiently old that I don't think I can find one to look at. I do have some manuals, which probably include the KX-P1124. I'll dig and see if I can find the part number. Panasonic was fairly good at stocking odd parts and just might have something. As for substitutes, if you can give me all the dimensions, I can see what I can find at the hardware store and auto shop.

Disclaimer: We have a major storm coming for the next 3 days and I may be rather busy.

Panasonic doesn't support the product as it is more than 7 years old. Or at least that's the story get from their 800 number. The inner tube worked but, as Jeff observed, is really too soft. I'm trying a strip of vinyl snipped off a thin piece of molding. I seems a better balance of firmness and resilence. Thank you all.

Regarding replacement rubber strips:

Also consider shoe repair shops for various sorts of rubber stock and being in a major metropolitan area, you could canvas any number of fabricators that use rubber in their products.

Michael
