HDTV, PC and network issues.

Hi;

Somebody spent money and now we have issues. Athlon 64 3800, gig of RAM, 200 gig HD.

Now we stole this thing, it came with a dual layer DVD burner, and all the usual, and a seperate CD drive. For $780 we got not only that, but a flat panel (mercury vapor lit) LCD monitor with pretty high resolution, but normal refresh, 12 mS. A 75' cat cable, a four port router and a PC to TV video convertor. The HDTV card has the remote and it works, even though it was not mentioned in the catalog, the paper one. Online the specs changed from SATA drive to IDE drive. That is cool with me, it would be nice to slave up my spare 80 gig and throw it all on there. All my media and portable programs etc.

We added the Kworld ATSC110 HDTV tuner.

This antenna of ours works pretty well with the NTSC sets in the house. I disconnected a four output splitter and fed all the signal from our amp to the PC, it was still not enough for NTSC, I did not bother to scan again for ATSC.

I know ATSC could be recieved on our antenna, can someone recommend where to look for an antenna amp that has a really high MOL ? I see a new spec, 'I' something or other on a new amp, it It claims +35 DB. I know PC TV tuner cards need alot of signal, and while our system works well for regular sets, it is snowy on this thing.

We really do not have much multipath, but the signal goes through a two way up in my house, and then goes downstarirs, right to the amp and then a 4 set coupler. I actually had to split it upstairs otherwise it would overload the amp.

I tried connect the output of the amp directly to the inputs on the tuner card, on ATSC it got nothing, on NTSC it is still snowy. Now I know them signals are out there and it is apparent that I just can't get them right now. The card was cheap enough an amp might be in the budget.

Or should I go with a discreet outdoor antenna ?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

The other issue is now there will be two PCs hooked up through a router to a DSL MODEM. Now, we just recieved delivery on this thing and it, for the moment, sits on the table downstairs. I have disconnected the CAT from my Win98SE PC to the MODEM and hooked it up to the XP PC. (Media 2005 edition) When I go back to the Win98 PC, I have a problem and have to reregister the MODEM. Is this going to screw me up when I hook up the router ?

I have spoken of the integration of the PC and home theater. We got it now, almost. By being able to pick the signal up, and send it to an NTSC set, a set top box will not be needed when they give up on NTSC. I found that it does have DVR, but not TIVO.

I have heard some bad things about Kworld, but this thing seems to be working. The bad stuff I heard about had to do with drivers and support. Right now I need DBs !. I want to see some HDTV on this thing.

I do see indoor antenae for like $50 each, are they any good at all ?

I really don't see how, due to our elevation and lay of the land we needed an antenna. It is fine for NTSC sets with adequate sensitivity, but not for this.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in, you know.
