Thunderbird Issues....

TB seems to be working pretty well for me these days but there is at least one really annoying bug. I don't have to do anything, just randomly a dialog will pop up saying, "You have chosen to open:" and a file name with random characters ending with @supernews.com. My news server is eternal-september. But it also says, "from: news:eternal-september.org:119".

I assume this is a single post? Why does it think I want to open it? I'm not even using TB when this happens sometimes. It is running in the background. Strange...

Funny, Eudora is working under Windows 8 better than it ever did. Some of the bugs I've seen in Win2K and Vista are gone under Win8.

Thanks for the advice.

Thunderbird isn't entirely graceful if the newserver times out on it.

I get prompted for username and pw when it happens but it wouldn't surprise me if it did other things (despite them being stored).

I have another gripe where it grumbles about spoofed security overrides where a friends server is masquerading as our village hall. Ever now and again TB decides that it doesn't like the security certificate (which is an obvious forgery but it has been overridden "forever").

I've had Eudora Pro (paid) since (IIRC) ~v3... never had a problem, Win95, WinNT, Win2K, WinXP, Win7... but I've always installed it in its own directory _not_ under Program Files.

The recent move from WinXP to Win7 only took _minutes_ with absolutely no hiccups... install, replace installed ini with ini from XP, copy all directories/mailboxes/filters from original... voila! ...Jim Thompson
