If you have a mains transformer with two primaries and you connect them in parallel but in anti-phase, do you get a big bang or do the EMF's simply cancel and you get nothing? I've been wondering this for years but never experimented.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about converting equipment from 240v to 110v and wiring the TX wrong.

Think of them as one primary, one secondary as a bifilar winding - no problem with them in parallel because there is a back EMF to oppose the driving voltage so only a little current. It's effectively a single winding. Reverse the connections, and there is no back EMF from the transformer core so lots of current.
