Autoranging rectifier

I am looking for an autoranging front-end circuit to convert a universal AC input ( 90-265VAC ) to an unregulated DC voltage ( in the range of 220-400VDC ) to power some DC supplies at 90 Watts.

It seems that such a front-end should operate as a doubler/rectifier in the lower AC input voltage ranges and as a simple rectifier in the higher AC input ranges.

I have not found anything like this on the market except for Vicor's FARM which is 1000 Watts and overkill ( both power and pricewise ).

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Best Regards

Oguz

If I understand you meas a universal power supply like as the active PFC, this system is able to keep a universal input range and transform it in a unregulated pseudo-DC voltage, then you need to put at the ed a SMPS to keep a better regulation of the output voltage.

Some link to interesting work related PFC:

That input voltage spec looks like combination of US 110V and European 240V

50Hz +/- tollerances? Is that what you want...A power supply that works in the USA and Europe? Take a look at the way ATX power supplies do their input stage. Follow it with a DC-DC converter.

What you want is a DC power supply. Transformer to step up the voltage and rectifier to make it DC . . . Input to output ratio: If you had 220 from it at the low end (90 in) you'd have 403 volts out for 265 in.

That's RMS voltage . . . filter it and you'd have ~570 volts DC at the high end.

You don't say if it will be filtered DC or pulsing (RMS) DC on the output

If you need regulated voltage out, one way would be to buy a switching power supply that already covers that input range then build a DC to DC step up converter for it. There are plenty of switching supplies that do what you want - but not many with high voltage outputs.
