Who May Apply: This announcement is open to all qualified U.S citizens.

Major Duties:

As an Aerospace Technologist (AST) specializing in Electronic Instrumentation Systems the incumbent serves as a senior engineer in the Microelectronics and Signal Processing Branch with technical authority for the definition, development, and system integration of custom mixed-signal Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC's).

The Branch designs, develops, and infuses leading edge electronic and microelectronic devices and components for flight and ground applications. Branch work includes the development and delivery of flight analog and digital systems that process science data, as well as the development of the advanced technology associated with these systems. The incumbent's work involves analyzing, designing, testing, and conducting performance validation of electronic instrumentation systems used for detecting, recording, measuring, or controlling physical conditions, phenomena, and environments encountered in aeronautical and aerospace research and development programs. Provides pioneering design and development efforts to produce new electronic systems or equipment;

Recommends state-of-the-art design approaches, electronic architectures, and development processes system that best serve the ASIC requirements of the program, project, systems, instrument, or experiment in question.

Maintains close contact with NASA Headquarters, other NASA centers, commercial industry representatives, and international partners for elements related to mixed-signal ASIC implementations in aerospace applications. Participates as a presenter in national and international seminars and symposia relating to ASIC's and other highly integrated electronic components used in flight systems.

Qualifications Required:

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. An example of specialized experience for this position is having lead develop/integration efforts of mixed signal ASICs within the aerospace industry.

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Ceramics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science*, Earth and Planetary Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics (Pure or Applied), Applied Mechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Meteorology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Oceanography, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Space Science, Structural Engineering, Welding Engineering or other appropriate physical science or engineering field. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.

Basis of Rating:

Resumes will be rated by an automated system (Resumix) that matches the competencies extracted from the candidate's resume to the competencies identified by the Selecting Official for the position. Candidates will be evaluated on the competencies they possess that are directly related to the duties of the job, as described above. Candidates should refer to NASA's Resume Guide for assistance in developing a complete resume, as NASA will not accept separate KSA statements.

Qualified candidates will be assigned to one of three quality levels based on the degree to which their competencies meet the duties required. For the purpose of the Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) and the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP), candidates rated in the top quality level are considered well-qualified.

Other Information:

Individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. See Basis for Rating for definition of well qualified.
