Wall-mounted iPad Pro runs a custom Home Assistant dashboard

The detail that surprised me most: this wall panel is not a dashboard loaded in a browser. It is a native iOS app written from scratch, and much of the code came out of AI-assisted sessions, what the maker calls vibe coding. For a home project, that approach producing something this polished is remarkable in my opinion.

The hardware story is just as good. The maker had an iPad Pro bought for school years ago, and it sat powered off for two of them because a MacBook gets used instead. Instead of a drawer, the tablet now lives on a wall in a black case, oriented horizontally, doing duty as both a control center and a clock, all tied into Home Assistant. A UNIQUE thermostat sits beneath it, with icons for power, temperature, fan, mode and lock.

The interface borrows the Apple Watch look, complete with iconic and custom watch faces. Clock styles include Classic, Numerals, Modular, Prism and Mickey, and a Face Gallery offers Markets, Artist, World Clocks and Luxury options, some of the complex ones generated with AI. Swiping opens a smart home dashboard titled Good night, with tiles for the Air Conditioner, Water Heater, Front Door and several lights, plus animated overlays when actions like turning off entrance lights fire. The nicest touch for me: adjusting the temperature on the tablet makes the physical thermostat light up and match the target. A music player hooked to two HomePods and a Marshall Acton IV exists too.

The open item is the code. The repo has not been shared yet, only promised once the app is ready, and Android tablet support is said to be coming.

Going native instead of a browser page seems like the smartest call here. A wall panel runs all day, so a purpose-built app should feel far snappier than any web dashboard refreshing in a tab. The trade-off is that it ties the whole thing to Apple hardware for now, though Android support being on the way softens that a lot.

How is the tablet kept powered and awake while it hangs on the wall? A control center and clock needs to be live around the clock, and I am curious whether the maker solved charging and screen-on time inside that case, or whether that part is still being worked out alongside the repo release.

One suggestion: publish the repo early, even in a rough state. A project this customizable, with swappable watch faces and adjustable clock parameters, would attract contributors fast, and the community could help polish the music player and apps section that has not been shown yet. Waiting until everything feels ready often just delays useful feedback and bug reports from people running it daily.
