I'm looking for the operator as well as and in particular - Service Manual - for a Systron Donner made item. It was made for Motorola. It is a Frequency Counter/Deviation Meter. The tag on back with the Systron Donner name on it says model #SLN6418A 75. On the inside at the operating position - it has on top section - Motorola Frequency Counter. The bottom section says - Motorola Auto-Tune Deviation meter.
I contacted SD once and never really got a reply worth helping. A "Secretary" called me back but said she would have to refer it to someone else. I never heard back from "someone else"
Unless I'm seeing things - NO. It looks to be standard LED Displays under the plastic housing. The unit is working for the most part as it sits, but does need some attention.
There's a big huge one with Nixie tubes and the deviation meter (or other options) being a plug-in, in a large case reminiscent of the ramp test box cases IFR used but longer. It's a cool looking display piece and works tolerably well as a counter and so should find a home on triage benches and for display. SD built them and they were a bitch to work on like all SD items. I think you are referring to a flat 19" rackable box the sixe of any modern HP piece which must be the later version.
Could be educational but I would never put serious money or effort into anything SD built ever.
This is a rather compact piece of equipment. Longer than high or wide. Has a little weight to it as well. I will be honest, I've never seen SD equipment up close before or used it - much less repair it - but silly me - from all I seen in catalogs and such - "assumed" it to be top notch gear. Guess we are never too old to learn!
I was hoping to find a manual for it for use and repair. What is wrong with it is, the input signal meter is not working - not sure if a wire off, detector diode shot - or perhaps a bad meter movement - which seems a standard size meter movement could be used - say 100uA or so. Also, "one" of the digits of the display isn't working. It is towards the end of the count - so say I'm measuring 155.29535 MHz - it lights up as 155.295x5 MHz - the x indicating the missing digit. So, it is useable to an extent if frequency accuracy is not really the desire. It gets me in the ball park, the Deviation meter seems to work ok - so far as testing it according to my Service Monitor. It has been a while since I turned it on - I can't recall now - if the whole LED is blank or just certain segments. I picjed this unit up dirt cheap so I"m not really out any cash. When I got it, the guy threw in a Sig Gen which has since been sold as I had no use for it. I got my money back plus some - just from the Sig Gen sale. May as well say the SD was a freebie.
