Semtech SH3003 MicroBuddy

Has anyone used this part before?

I'm thinking of designing it into a product of mine, but I have never used a Semtech part in a design before.

Is Semtech a good company to work with? Do they have descent support?

Is programming the SH3003 pretty straight forward?

Thanks,

Eric

I seriously considered using it once and asked the same question. I don't recall the difference between the SH3003 and the SH300x part I considered, but I had been warned about an errata concerning drawing current from a reference pin sucking down the battery. It was a few years back, so I forget the details, but make sure you get and read in detail the errata sheet.

Also, consider what this part does compared to a lot of the MCUs available. Other than a sub uA RTC, what does this part do that an MCU can't? For $2.50 I would get a $1 RTC and put the other $1.50 in my pocket.

Depends on the price. This type of niche peripheral struggles against the uC offerings, that keep giving more for less $$.

Compare with something like C8051F305 for example, or if you do not need the RTC, look at the MC9RS08KA, for an indication of just how cheap, and capable, small uC are.
