Parallel port communication trouble - help !

i m using PC's parallel port to communicate with a 8052 when sending a byte to 8052 eveything is ok the byte data is sent without error but when i try to receive a byte from 8052 i.e when reading data pins of parallel port it makes very much error (i set control port bit5 to read data pins ) (cable is 5 m) (i have 74hc245 driver between PC and 8052)

my question ; has anyone experience with parallel port communication have u come up with similar results ? what can u suggest to me ?

Did you make sure your parallel port is setup in a mode that actually allows bidirectional operation, like EPP or full IEC 1284?

5 meters is generally too long for PC parallel ports. Keep it below about 2 meters if possible.

yes - i use ECP+EPP selection on bios setup

my data rate is very slow right now maybe 1000 bytes / second i dont think the signals are degraded at this low speed

thanks
