Microchip has introduced a significant upgrade to their ICD development tool, the MPLAB ICD 3:

Improvements include support for up to 1,000 software breakpoints for all Microchip microcontrollers (except for the PIC32).
Programming times are also vastly improved. Programming a 512K flash array, which used to take 3 1/2 minutes, now needs a mere11.1 seconds.
