Looking for embedded engineers with nontraditional backgrounds

For my current book project, I'm looking for a few stories - four orfive at MOST - from people who entered embedded engineering throughhigher education, but via nontraditional paths (i.e. something otherthan BSEE, BSc, comp sci/electronics/etc. sorts of majors). Forexample, I've heard several stories of people who started life withadvanced degrees in classical languages, but migrated into engineeringwithout actually sitting through a single electronics or softwareclass.I'm _not_ looking for people who got into engineering without firstacquiring a degree; I have plenty of those stories already.Please email me if you have an interesting tale. Remuneration(commensurate with my poverty ;) is offered.No urban legends or fiction, please - only personal experience. I myself am a commerce grad with experience in OS/HW abstraction. I started off with building an echo canceller for a DSP processor and currently working on IP switching. Sounds strange?

'Er indoors did a maths and astronomy degree and ended up writing embedded code for fighter aircraft head up displays. Is that the sort of thing you're after?

The chap who used to design the IR detector systems *many* years ago for English Electric's steel rolling mill automation systems just had a degree in botany!
