8 watt PC+ ubuntu

I've always been interested in low power PCs, and found this.

even a telnet game at the bottom of that page

Not exactly embedded, but 8 watts,

Just wondering if if there are other lower powered PCs around (cheap) that can be recommended?

I'm running Debian on an NSLU2. It runs 5W typical (measured myself) and is rated as 7W max. Since I use it as my main web and file server running 24/7 I calculated that at USD $99 it pays for itself in about

18 months by saving electricity compared to a regular PC. Of course, the external harddisk attached to it is itself consuming around 10W depending on load. But 17W is still a lot less power consumed compared to a regular PC. It's even lower than the power consumption of most laptops.

Hmm.. it appears that their 8W rating is with hard disk. How do they manage to get a hard disk to run on so little power? My Maxtor runs quite hot, it idles at around 3-4W but with all my bittorrenting it is rarely idle.

Of course, for the ultimate power saving I can simply run my server from a thumb drive.

Maybe they use a HDD made for laptops.

I was going to order one ($99) til I saw that they want another $30 plus shipping to another location. This just to "unlock" the device so you can actually use the internal hard drive to install an OS, how pathetically lame.

Upon further investigation, it appears that this is no longer an issue. I think I may get one to tinker with after all. I've never installed (or even seen) Ubuntu Linux (I'm a Gentoo fan myself) so this might be fun.
