Vital Parts of Apliances Seem To Last Longer Than Frivolous Extras

Most people just buy new appliances but I'll often check to see if there is something easy to fix like a fuse.

I take it apart in a hurry in barely remember/almost destructive mode which is like the instructions to "capture" of bin Laden. If he breaths, call it resisting arrest and shoot him.

I line up the screws in a row looking, just looking, for a reason to toss the coffee maker, air mattress, etc.

Usually the pretext does not present itself so I often end up bypassing timers, switches and other controls I never use anyway and, if it only runs a few minutes a week, just plug it in and monitor the thing.

This is such a common experience you wonder if it has to do with the internal office politics or market research of the manufacturer.

The frivolous extras could be made to last longer or eliminated altogether or a bypass could be included you that you never have to touch a screw driver.
