Maybe not compared to winch motors, but wiper motors have a
*surprising* amount of torque for their size... they have to, to be able to deal with long wiper arms, that can get iced to the glass, etc.Years ago as a young engineer at GM's Cadillac Dvision I needed to power a test rig for something (don't recall what) and grabbed a wiper motor that was sitting in the lab. To check that it was functional, I simply held it in my hand, unconnected to anything like a mechanical load, and clip-leaded it to a big 12V 20 A bench supply. The no-load counter-torque was astounding: ripped it out of my hand and whacked me on the knuckles with it's flanges... punishment from the electron gods for lack of respect! It was by far the most powerful motor for its size that I had encountered up until then.
