Hello: I bypassed the broken switch and wire-nutted the white power wire with the red wire. There are 4 wires total in the switch: white, red, blue, and green. My first question regards when I wire-nutted all
4 wires together. I plugged in the fan, it ran, and then it smelled like it was burning up. Sure enough, the multiple plates of metal surrounding the shaft of the fan were hot, well, warm. So, I took that apart and put only the white and red wires together. No smell after 15 minutes. Question: Why did it become hot? Second question: What is a suitable lubricant for the fan shaft magnet that spins to stop the chattering? This fan is 7 years old and I am curious to how long I can keep it going. Thanks in advance of replies and for recommendations on basic electronic books. John D
