Yahoo LTspice Shutting Down

Yahoo is terminating service on Oct 21. The LTspice group is moving to

The migration is in process. The AllFiles folder may be missing some updates. Helmut tried to update the file but Yahoo refused to allow it. These problems and other glitches will probably be corrected soon.

Many people are pleased with the move. Due to the many problems with Yahoo, I and others have proposed making this move for years, but Helmut didn't want to take the risk. Now that he has no choice, he is now committed to make the move as quick and simple as possible.

There is a cost to the group owner of something like $110USD for the first year to have the group migrated to groups.io as you have to use the 'Premium' service. After a year the group owner can switch to free service - hope they remember to do that...

I hope your group members are passing the hat!

I am in many and even own a few Yahoo groups such as LTspice. Yahoo provid ed a rather brief notice with groups being disabled for new content Oct 28. With groups.io being an even better second choice it seemed to be no bigg ie, but groups.io quickly put on a $110 fee for porting the group. Then th ey doubled it to $220.

I don't know if this fee is really necessary or if they did an analysis and found it was simply a better price point from the perspective of making mo re money. Either way it has priced all of the groups I own from being port ed and a number of groups I am in will not be ported as well.

I'm not a fan of groups.io anymore.

Perhaps if you nominate your groups, archiveteam.org might be able to preserve the existing content.

I have heard that it is theoretically possible to migrate a group to a free account on groups.io with some script that was suggested in various places, but I haven't tried it. Supposedly the expensive account is just easier.

Yes, much easier. I created a GoFundMe account who only took 5% of the tak e and in one day got $210 of the $220 required. $210 because of the GoFund Me fee. Someone donated another $15, but that would give me a surplus, so I'm refunding that and will chip in the other $10 myself.

So, problem solved.

I requested a download of my data, and after a few days they e-mailed me that a zip file of my data was ready. It seems to contain all of the messages and files from every yahoo group that I was a member of. This is nice to have as insurance - I hear that there is quite a backlog for migration to groups.io and it is nice to have a copy on my machine in the mean time.
