Why Romney lost

Romney lost for a bunch of reasons, but mostly because he's just not very good communicating. That's a Republican weakness to start with, and the media's partisan advocacy for Obama makes it harder.

Romney wasn't able to explain that in fact Democrats have the war on minorities and women: that Obama pays his female staff lower wages. Obama's policies have hurt black people worst of all--condemning them to greater unemployment and substandard schools, yet they gladly support Obama, believing made-up lines that Republicans are racist.

Romney wasn't able to explain that Obama's pushing a society of super- rich elite solar-cell / windfarm and other friend-favorites, enjoying favored political treatment from him, and tossing benefit-crumbs to the poor. They'd rather have jobs.

Lots of voters I spoke to in Ohio bought Obama's absurd "tax-the-rich" bill-of-goods, thinking that'll somehow fix the deficit. They didn't understand that that only pays for a tiny fraction of Obama's deficit & overspending. Once they understood that, they worried about the absurd nonsense Obama put out about Romney having "investments in China." Well, if you own GM stock (or GE), guess what--you've got investments in China.

Obama was really good at scaring low-information people into believing things that aren't true.

Both sides are focused on treating their voters like children. In this election, the right was trying to duplicate the success of those doing this for decades on the left, but it doesn't work as well with them--the right's voters aren't the same. I got four texts from Romney on election day urging me to vote. As if I needed it...(I voted early).

Obama was really good at making hay of non-issues, like passing the redundant Lily-Ledbetter Act guaranteeing to fix an issue that isn't even real, something which was already illegal, and which Obama himself is one of the greatest offenders.

African-Americans and young people have horrifying unemployment rates, incarceration rates, and debt. They can expect more of the same in the future. People get the government they deserve.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- About 40 students at Hampden-Sydney College shouted racial slurs, threw bottles and set off fireworks outside the Minority Student Union within an hour of President Barack Obama's re-election.

President Chris Howard reported the early Wednesday unrest in an email to parents Thursday. He is the tiny college's first African-American president.

Howard said the incident also included threats of physical violence.

Members of the Minority Student Union notified campus leaders and police of the gathering outside their house. An investigation is under way.

The racially tinged incident is the second reported protest sparked by Obama's re-election. A protest at the University of Mississippi in Jackson late Tuesday involved about 400 people who shouted racial slurs.

The GOP, or some successor party, needs to come to grips with it's nutcase wings and drop a lot of nonsense...

(1) Do I give a f*** if Democrats want to avail themselves of abortion? No. Look on the positive side, it's a form of Darwin's natural selection process.

(2) What is the real cost of providing birth control "for free"? Not much... and the positive value... do you want the Sandra Fluke's of the world "fluke-ing" away and populating the world with little "fluke-s"... NO >:-}

(3) Calling same-sex "arrangements" as "marriage" is offensive to probably half of the people in the US, so make a tax benefit equivalent... or, as I opine... do away with the marriage tax benefit altogether :-)

(4) I don't know quite what to do about the everyone gets "free" higher education demand. Maybe edict that Professors must be paid only minimum wage? That ought to fix everyone's wagon >:-}

Edict is not a verb, sounds like you need some of that free education yourself.

The interesting question is voting for values you believe in versus doing everything for victory at any cost.

Republicans and Romney lost in 2008 by not electing Romney as v.p. Now they lost by not electing Condoleeza as v.p.

I can't tell you the number of black voters in line who, never having seen me, told me I'm racist, that I hate Obama because he's black, and other idiotic nonsense, and I'm just tired of that hackneyed excuse.

If you want to play that game with real facts, Democrats are now and always have been the party of slavery, of the KKK, lynchings, and plantations. Democrats are the ones who tell me black people are genetically inferior, violent, incapable of employment or caring for themselves, and thus need welfare, lest they riot and leave their side of town.

That is a dark, cynical, patronizing, absolutely false world view, which I've only gotten from "liberals". I reject it utterly.

If Democrats really cared about black people, they'd be far better educated, and they'd have jobs. That's what I want, but Democrats and teachers' unions block it with all their might.

Democrats have taken over education, spending a fortune on it on every conceivable frill, yet replace real knowledge and critical thinking with politically correct crap. That does nothing to prepare kids to succeed, except in the Obamaphone line.

The whole racism accusation is a cynical ploy to distract attention from whatever it is Democrats don't want to talk about, usually the fact that Obama is a terrible president. Ditto the "war on women," headed by Bill Clinton, a five-star general in the war on women. It's all a bunch of puerile nonsense.

I can tell you that's not true. Absolutely not true.

The economy--especially jobs--was everyone's chief concern. People weren't happy with Obama, but Romney didn't convince them that he had the answers. Romney never explained himself in clear, consistent terms. He put things differently at different times, and put forth perfectly reasonable sweeping principles, but without specifics. In Ohio, people took that for evasion, and they distrusted it.

In the inner city, blacks voted for Obama because he's black--they said so. That's what mattered to them most.

Some elderly voters were fear-mongered over Paul Ryan taking away their Medicare / Social Security, which of course Ryan *never* proposed in any way.

A number of women were concerned about contraception, afraid Romney was going to take that away from them(!). A 60-ish women told me she went Obama over concern over Romney taking her "reproductive rights." She said she really didn't care about the economy.

Those are a few samples. There was pretty uniform agreement that we need jobs, that we're spending far too much money, and that that, the stimulus, etc., didn't work. People were worried about that, and the debt. Correctly. They can't quantify it but they know it's bad, and they're worried.

There were lots of good, hardworking people voting for Obama, concerned about the country, but just not sure what to do.

At bottom, these folks weren't happy, but felt they knew Obama better than the alternative. O's campaign was FUD, and it worked.

Romney wasn't in favour of greed? Martin Luther King would have been delighted that Obama got a second term.

Obama did well with the minorities, not because they were voting on racial lines, but because the minorities saw - very clearly - that the Republican emphasis on making sure that the well-off got to be even better off at the expense of the remaining 99% of the country wasn't going to do anything to help them.

That's the perception about greed that decided the election.
