Bah humbug. It was bad enough when we had to go through this ordeal twice per year. Now, I have do to do it 4 times per year. I'm sure it's worth it for all the energy we're saving by running daylight savings time an extra 6 weeks per year, but the hassle is becoming irritating. This time:

- Two of my Unix boxes didn't update correctly, mostly because I forgot to tweak the TZ data. (OK, I'm not perfect).

- Windoze 98SE laptop is probably also wrong, but the battery is dead, so I have to reset the clock when I want to use it anyway.

- I was watching DirecTV last night. The program guide was a scrambled mess between midnight and 1AM, but corrected itself at 1AM.

- My various WWVB "atomic clocks" all failed to correct for PST, mostly because none of them got updated last night. No clue why. Probably propogation.

- My extra hour of sleep was trashed by the animals that hadn't gotten the word that time has changed.

- My Windoze Mobile 2005 based cell phone finally has the correct time which means my appointment calendar isn't one hour off as it has been for the last 3 weeks.

- I switched my data loggers over to UTC a few years ago, and have lived happily ever after.

So, have any of the bureaucrats that voted for this abomination actually calculated the net energy savings? I couldn't find any numbers with Google.

Tired atoms? Try winding the watch?

The same thing happened to all my assorted WWVB bases clocks and WX stations. None of them updated last night. There's an icon on the display that shows an antenna if it's been updated in the last 24 hrs. All my 5 clocks are blank today, meaning no update last night. Maybe propagation will improve tonite.

Some hints on improving WWVB reception:

Hmm.... they left out not putting the clock near a continuously operating switching power supply. My clock never updated in that position.

It is worse when you run two Windoz OSes; they both "adjust" the time if you have themset for that function. Got tired of the BS and disabled that on both. Remember, a stopped watch is right at least twice a day...

Nothing happy about it. For the next 6 months, all the rug rats will be out playing in the street in the dark.
