Looks identiucal to the Vishay parts ( e.g. tsop34837) Vishay also do a SMD variant, TSOP36237, whch is smaller in some dimensions, but not much.

The GP1u series has long been obsolete so don't design it in. The replacement is the same as the American opto device above. I wouldn't use this- noise immunity. The metal can version is much better. I can't tell you what the sharp part number is. The supplier in the UK puts their own number in their catalogue- HMV602 ( H or V). It works very well. package size is about 7mm sq. x 3mm. I don't think you'll get an integrated IR detector the size of a 5mm led.....

As others have pointed out, the modern IR receivers are all marginally wider and higher than a 5mm led, but not by very much. Overall the space requirements for a 5mm led and a IR reciever is about the same in practical terms.
In addition to the American Micro products there are numerous asian made items such as the Brightled BRM1030
