searching for surplus VFD displays

Hello... I have a project in mind where I would like to design in a VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display). I'm looking for something that would only have 7 segment digits + decimal points. No other annunciators are wanted. Also, I need no more than 6 digits and the display only needs to be about .27" high. Searching the Internet has not been productive for me. Does anyone know of a source where I could purchase a few for my project. Thanks..

Jim

These are pretty much an obsolete technology. LED displays blow them away completely.

But we have several VFD displays on our eBay listings.

Are they really obsolete? What technology do most of the consumer electronics (stereo tuners, etc..) seem to use? I thought they were considered VFDs? They look so much 'sharper' in my opinion..

If these are not considered VFD's, then what technology is it?

Thanks for your input.. Jim

Jim... Noritake makes text and graphics VFDs with a power supply and controller on the back... they will sell you the raw glass if you want to build your own ps and ctlr... which we have done... how big is your estimated quan? Send an email!

Have you taken a recent wander through a consumer electronics shop? Most of what i have seen is LCD (including a lot of printed mask annunciators), with some LED illuminated printed mask annunciators. VFD has a certain "depth" to it that other technologies do not. Also if you look carefully (even in normal indoor light) all of the possible indications are visible to the naked eye.
