You mean the market that is growing rather than shrinking and that Intel is n't doing so well competing in? It's not that Intel isn't in the same mark et, it's that they still have not yet found their footing in it.

I haven't watched the video yet, but do they talk about the server market? My understanding is that the ARM processors are gaining ground there. Tha t is supposed to be the important market going forward.

BTW, when is DRAM going to move? They been shipping most machines with 16 GB for what, four, five years? When will the price drop so 32 GB becomes t he norm? My previous machine only had 16 GB and periodically usage would r each a ceiling and the machine would either slow to a crawl or sometimes ap ps would crash.

With 32 GB I almost never have that problem. Right now it is running at 18 GB. Just enough to not work well in 16 GB.

While I can always add RAM to a machine, that costs a lot more than buying it in the machine already. Usually laptops have no empty slots and the exi sting memory has to be tossed.

Intel isn't going to find their footing when they long ago gave up on those ARM markets and stopped trying.

Again, so what? TSMC knows how to make a clean room and Intel doesn't? TSMC can afford the latest tech, but Intel can;t? Makes no sense.

Both Samsung and Intel are under-estimating the yield issues. TSMC spend lots of time and effort in cleaning, and taking Samsung and Intel to the cl eaner. I heard that TSMC is 100x cleaner than the competitors.

It's not rocket science that as process tech advanced, it required continua lly more advanced clean rooms. Intel suddenly forgot that? Makes no sense. No r have I seen anyone in the industry give that as the reason.

Because TSMC is the master of the technology, the proprietary knowledge of how to build chips, not a US company. And while they will build some fabs here, probably to appease Trump at the moment, it won't be where they build the bulk of their chips, nor replace all the Intel fabs. It's like the US auto industry. Sure, many foreign companies build something here today, but it's a far cry from Detroit in the 50s and 60s. This is one of the last areas where Amer ica had dominance and it's slipping away. The question is why. I strongly suspect it's what happens when you let an accountant from Ebay run one of America's leading high tech companies, a national security asset.

That's laughable. Trump is the last guy to listen to a reasoned consensus about anything. He can't sit through five minutes of anything, yet he's going to listen to complex trade and national security issues. It's the other way around. Trump lashes out with no real knowledge of what he's talking about, his minions have to fall in line and find ways to justify what Trump wants done.

Which many branches are these? The driving force against China has been Trump, Trump, Trump.

And they are still succeeding, because Trump's way of taking them on was destined to fail from the start. Instead of getting our allies who have similar issues to join us together to address China, Trump declared war on China and our allies at the same time. The result was predictable.

My 68020 Amiga A1200 could run rings around a 386 Win95 machine. Amiga OS 3.0 took up all of 4MB HDD space fully installed and could be run from a single 880KB floppy if needed. Win95 took up what - 40MB?

Yes, but that was year later, the first IBM PC used the 8088, the AT used the 286 and there was already an existing OS and user software on X86 that was not going to run on a 68X anything.

I'm from then, I remember. But that's a far cry from the Flying Dutchman's claim that there was nothing better at the time.

I had an LSI-11 based timeshare system, well into the PC-XT era. It would timeshare eight users, ran multiple languages including assembly, actually ran multiple OSs, had absolute memory management and protection, had a bulletproof file system, and ran solid for months between ac power failures.

We used the Macro-11 assembler as the assembler for other micros, just with defining macros. The guy who wrote Macro-11 said "it's not an assembler, it's a language processor."

There was nothing a user could do to crash it.
