You might want to examine your premises. In the US a) everyone is richer, b) a big chunk of the increased 'gap' with the rich comprises and is accounted for by bubble & CEO bonuses, i.e., not systemic, widespread unfairness. Lastly, c) much of the poverty is because the poor aren't doing the things they need to do to avoid poverty.

Lot of people only have one leg. Is that fair? Amputations for all!

Wouldn't it be better to give the poor a leg up, rather than hand them rewards they haven't earned?
