Not sure who you're referencing here, but focus is primarily a matter of aperture. To put it briefly, if you want the maximum chance of everything being sharp, you have to stop down your lens to a very small 'hole' as it were (unfortunatley that means a longer exposure for the same ambient light, but you have to decide which is more important to you in the circs; it's all about trade-offs same as everything else.
