Detecting a 2d static load can't be simple. If you want to detect a 1D load, there are all sorts of schemes. A common technique is build a TDR, and detect where coaxial cable is deflected. Pressing on the cable causes an impedence change, which in turn causes a reflection. This scheme only senses where pressure is applied, but not the amount of pressure. There are probably patent issues.
