Don't be so sure of that. If you just lost some bulbs, replace 'emand move on. Few if any 12V systems have need of a crowbar.There are NEVER good reasons to put 12V and 120V wiringso close together that the wires are likely to touch.If this is for exterior lighting, the 12VAC is probably isolated, andyoucould ground one leg (or a center tap), then any 120VACline with a GCFI (ground circuit fault interrupter) would tripthe safety on a 'touch' fault. That would be my choice.

Suggest you make sure it never happens again. If it _can_ happen it'salmost surely unsafe and in violation of electrical code. IIRC, CSA wants low voltage lines in the vicinity of mains wiring tohave insulation rated for the mains voltage (eg. 300V) or to besleeved with something that brings it up to that rating (eg.fiberglass sleeving).

Yeah, but we were replacing and updating boxes INSTALLED in the sixties... ;-)

They had a video distribution system on campus built using DTL that had a 12MHz video bandwidth, stereo sound and an intercom channel that had a 12x256 switch at the heart. Most of the larger classrooms had the system installed, with several equipped for providing sources as well! We were adding the ability to have a local VCR plugged into the control box. Plug in the special connector, and the monitors and sound system came on.

Ok, that was professional stuff. I was thinking about residential. I still have a whole box full of 1950's coax jacks and connectors that came out of some dismantled TV sudio. Wanted to use them for ham radio because they can be plugged and pulled a whole lot faster than PL-239. Then I got married ...
