"Current limiting" has a specific definition in electric power protection.
That is why I put it in quotes, ditz.
The peak current downstream is lower than if the fuse took 1 cycle to clear. They are "current limiting". That lowers magnetic forces and greatly lowers "arc flash" exposure to workers.

Why do you suppose the name is "silver-sand". It was in the link I provided.
"Silver" gives a small cross-section for the fuse-wire - it burns open fast. But then the wire is divided into many small silver wires in parallel. They burn open even faster.
"Sand" is around the silver-wire links. It helps quench the arc.
That can result fuses that are "current limiting", which is increasingly important including for safety of workers on electrical systems. ========================= With minimal google skills you could find
