Forest Rangers got emBAERessed because they had to make Smokey start fires which were necessary to clear out undergrowth.

The Ohmite MOX series are made on ceramic rods and are epoxy coated, unscratched and untouched by human hands or Baer paws.

Strangely, in the 40's and 50's, some people asked my dad (Leon Baer) if he was related to Max Baer (the fighter).

I think i mentioned that i handled them only by their wires... I keep each one in a clear plastic envelope that Mouser or Digikeyused for shipping.

Not sure, but i don't get why. DI water is purer. A bit of a hand please?

I've seen 'so called' DeIonized water destroy whole sets of lead acid batteries in days.

I used to do measurement systems to monitor the purity of water in semiconductor fabs, both for particles and for dissolved metals.

Water spontaneously dissociates a little, so that the concentration of H+ and OH- is about 10**-7 molar at 25C, iirc. The definition of pH is the logarithm of the H+ concentration, and ultrapure water is pH = 7.

That ultrapure water is a poor conductor, with a resistivity of 18.2 megohm-cm at 25 C. In semiconductor research, it's common to have two grades of deionized water, 1 megohm-cm and 18.2 megohm-cm. (At my PPOE, my clean hood had 3 cold water taps--mains water and 1- and 18.2-megohm deionized.)

The high temperature of distillation processes tends to leach stuff out of the glassware, resulting in lower purity than deionization.

Cheers

Smokey told them "Do it yourself, i ain't gonna take the fall for this one". Smart bear.

Ouch. Then we (should) have a case of false advertizing. DI water as i learned it is the top end of ultrapure. Considering current marketing and labeling enforcement i can see where the "problem" lies.

Yep. That is what i have seen all over the place since i took Chemistry in high school. I remember finding an article that discussed measuring that value, turns out to be a bit difficult.

Poor conductor is an interesting turn of phrase for that, some might use mediocre insultor instead. Though it is not the easiest to keep it in that state.
