OK, I suspected that might be what you were getting at. But as has already been pointed out, HDCP is NOT an integral part of HDMI, and that content-protection system is also supported on a number of other interfaces. In fact, it's available on every digital display interface in the consumer TV and PC markets today.

Bullshit. The discs ARE "so labeled", and it is the player that matters from the display's POV, not the disc.
