I have a Rigol I hacked to double the BW.
Jim Williams swore that his 556 Tek dinosaur was the best, and he did a lot of good analog design with such stone age equipment. 50 mhz as I remember and amplifier modules.
just in case CR's...

Wow 50mhz, that is nothing, mine even goes to DC.
I think Tek used to use an asic to go directly from ADC to screen. Now they use Linux.
According to Dave Jones, the update rate in the MSO3000 is a few hundred thousand traces per second, which isn't too shabby. Sampling scopes are doing well to get that many _points_ per second. ;)

My DPO2024. Boots Linux, in a minute or so.
Tek switched from Win to Linux???? Some backup please.
?-)
I have a Tek TDS694c tat I am wondering what to do with. It is a remnant of a project which went south. I think this scope is fairly fast - 4x10 GSPS as I recall. Any ideas where to sell, or ses for it? JB
Hang on to it till they pry it from your cold dead fingers. My favourite scope of all. Get a few P6249 probes to go with it.

You can get about $3k for them on eBay.

I can't say either way, however, it would've been the smartest move on their part!

OK, she could not. Cannot even log in anymore at yahoo.
And what do you think of the "Swiss Army Knife" Tek scopes? They are advertising one that can do 6 things, like spectrum analyzer, etc.
I was looking at the MDO3000s, but probably won't buy one unless I start doing a lot more road-warrior stuff, where it would be great to have a portable lab. I already have all that capability (except a logic analyzer) in boat anchor form. Also the spectrum analyzers are all SDR-type gizmos, which means their phase noise is the pits compared to a YIG-tuned LO.
The MDO4000s have the mixed-domain capability, which the 3000s don't, so they're more attractive.

I think Agilent (or whatever they are this week) has far better scopes than Tek, now. I have an MSO3104 at work. I like it a lot, except the I2S stuff is almost useless. The rest of the serial port stuff is
*much* better than Tek's (hardware vs. software decode). Agilent brought in their MSO4000 scopes last week for a lunch-n-learn (BBQ for sitting through a hands-on lab). The touch screen was a huge addition but I'm not likely to get a new scope because it's pretty. If you don't want to spend $10-$20K, though, Rigol is probably the way to go. I don't see a place for Tek at the table, any more. They're high priced and technically inferior.
Their only outstanding product is the TPS series of isolated-input scopes.
I am with you on the Rigol, price wise it's good for what it does. Jamie
I don't like them but it's not my money, either. ;-)
Google, yahoo, microsoft, none of them are contactable by Individuals.
Microsoft think they invented DMARC but their DKIM validator is broken (~1 year) Yahoo's SMTP service violates a key requirement of SMTP AUTH (~7 years); and Google groups is has reduced compatibility with usenet (progressivley, ~5+ years). The people who can fix it aren't contactable, your best move is to throw it away.

Yes, already emailed a note to myself to do just that. Their webmail is convenient however if you are at some remote place and want to quickly check. also all my programs released under GPL and otherwise have yahoo as author contact address. It worked OK for > 10 years, until this person took 'charge'. Bringing out new versions of all those programs is a nono.
I REALLY would love it if they put people in charge who have a clue about their products, from the technical level up. Not just a nice face baby sitter,
NASA, Von Braun got them a manned moon return in no time, at no cost. since the political puppets are in charge it is going nowhere where no man has gone before or something like that.
Anyways I do have a payed real email address and web hosting. Not that their helpdesk is that fast or even accurate.
And yahoo email started working again after a day or so...
